So far Away

so Close

Bird song and the voices of children as the city comes awake for the day just beyond the window. Basking in the morning sun on your very own balcony – and stopping downstairs at the in - house café for a first cup of coffee. The park across from WOHNPANORAMA is already alive with early morning runners. It feels like a private sanctuary for any kind of exercise: running in the morning, doing yoga at night, going in-line skating or playing beach volleyball. You can do anything you fancy on the trails and lawns, sports facilities and courts here. There is even an urban beach area with sundeck and bar!

On a vast railway brownfield extending from a canal in the north to a distant bridge in the south, Gleisdreieck Park occupies more than 30 hectares. It never gets old seeing the open space, meadows, groves and breathtaking lines of sight. Straddling the western edge of the park, this urban residential frontage overlooks lush grasslands traversed by the elevated tracks of two underground lines. The outdoor café “Eule” in the gardens south of WOHNPANORAMA is the perfect place for pastries and lemonades made on the premises. There is also a playground for children to romp around on next door.

Motley – and

Never a dull moment.

The area around WOHNPANORAMA will make you itch to try out new things, as diversity is more than just a word here. On Kurfürstenstrasse and Potsdamer Strasse, you encounter business people and gallery owners, a multi-ethnic comm- unity and a flamboyant crowd of night owls. Keb- ab stands rub shoulders with organic delis, while the kitschy “Kumpelnest 3000” dive is just around the corner from the chi-chi “Victoria- Bar.” If you feel like having Thai food, “Edd’s” is the place. For a fine blend of art and vegetarian Mediterranean cuisine, try “Mischkonzern.” Last but not least, there is a new café/restaurant at “Lindemann’s Parkhotel” next door. Shopping in this neighbourhood is the easiest thing in the world. There is a convenience store right

on the town square and a bakery for freshly baked goods in the morning. Countless stores of various ethnic background are within easy walking dist- ance of the WOHNPANORAMA. The malls and shopping arcades on Potsdamer Platz and the alternative stores on Motzstrasse and Winter- feldtstrasse provide a wide spectrum of retail choices. One of the highlights in the quarter is the “Murkudis Concept Store” with its unique apparel and furniture. A must-do for lovers of regional organic produce is the bustling farmers’ market on Winterfeldtplatz on Saturdays. The district of Schöneberg where the market place is located is, by the way, known for its fine schools and preschools.

A true Hotspot

for the arts.

Berlin is one of Germany’s cultural hubs – and living at the WOHNPANORAMA lets me feel its cultural heartbeat. Every winter, the nearby area around Potsdamer Platz becomes the site of the Berlin Film Festival, with theatres including the Berlinale Palace, the Cinemaxx and CineStar multiplex cinemas as well as the Arsenal at Deutsche Kinemathek – one of the world’s best known art film venues. For music, art and other entertainment in the vicinity, try the “Winter- garten Varieté,” the “Station” or the

“Tempodrom,” the Kulturforum or the Philharmonic Hall. The German Museum of Technology beyond the park is fun for everyone. The area is increasingly turning into a genuine hotspot for the visual arts. Not least because some of the city’s major museums are right around the corner, including the New National Gallery, the Gemäldegalerie and the Martin-Gropius-Bau. These are complemented by dozens of renowned galleries on and around Potsdamer Strasse, subject to an upward trend.
